Although not always together, a total of 19 boats were
involved in the recent northbound TARPON SPRINGS trip. Engine issues
kept Cruise Captain Barry Nielsen, CSCape, from joining the entourage for the
whole journey, but persistence surely kept him trying! Dave Cleverly,
Free Again, took the interim leadership helm, a role appreciated by all, and
even acknowledged by a friendly “love dropping from the sky” via the seagulls
in Gulfport.
Anchorages included Pelican Bay, Sarasota, Gulfport, Clearwater, Caladesi State Park, Tarpon Springs, Dunedin, St. Petersburg, Desoto Point, Lido Key, Peeking Ranch Cove, Englewood, and Boca Grande.
Camaraderie and fellowship were shared regarding incidents of a lost dingy, near-aground happenings, a broken dingy motor, and illness on Gettinair, along with hunkering down for a couple chilly mid-April days. Rewards and laughter came with swimming in the gulf, shell gathering, nature walks, sponge shops, art shows, trolley riding, “oldy-wed” game, walks on the beach, para-sailing, dock parties, eating out (despite Barry’s reluctance) and much more.
New friendships developed within the group and even extended to the friends met along the way…actually gained four prospective new members! And, those with the delegated responsibilities of providing good weather and beautiful sunsets did an outstanding job!
During the same time period, a southbound trip to the KEYS was also in progress. At the time of this printing, that group was still out on the waters, so a re-cap will come next month.
